Subaru Cape Town presents the Western Cape XCO Champs

By Press Office · 34 comments

We will meet at Bloemendal Wine Estate on the 28th of May 2016 to see who will be the Western Cape XCO Champs.

Our Western Cape (WC) riders have showed guts, tenacity and determination during the four race WC series. The series took us from Rhebokskloof in Windmeul to Helderberg in Somerset West and finally to Picardie Guest Farm in Paarl. The series was tough and unrelenting and the riders had to deal with challenging tracks and weather.

The track at Bloemendal is evolving into a worthy challenge and riders will once again have to dig deep. The winners in each category will not only be crowned the WC Champ but also receive a WC Winners Jersey. All podium winners will also receive prize money and must be present at prize giving at 16h00.

That looks friendlier than the cascades course. I was humbled when I rode that a few weeks ago.

Is that the case or is the camera flattening things out?

My son said the flow of the course is better than Helderberg, and the climbs not as bad. Not sure how this compares with Cascades, but I would guess the difficulty of Cascades to be world cup level.

The Bloemdal course apparently have 190m of climb over a 5km course.

Absolutely!!!! Track is an awesome one for spectating, and there could have been loads more!

I was there with my lightie in his backpack carry thing and on my shoulders.

Renay Groustra was in a class of his own in the sub vets, and Mark Moir in the vets. Ladies race was also good, but not enough ladies to make it a close one.

Nick seemed to do well, as did Donovan, but he just couldn't hang on to Daryn Stow in the last couple of laps.

Couple of funny crashes and ALMOST crashes (bucking and front wheel landings on the jumps and drops) but overall a good race from what I could see.

Elite men had a clear winner from the get go (can't recall the name - in red kit riding a spaz epic) but not many people got the woop section right. Need to pre-jump it in order to go in with any sort of speed, and prevent the back wheel from lifting too much thanks to the log on the entry.
