Rourke Croeser found not guilty of contravening Medical Rules

By Press Office · 122 comments

The finding of Cycling South Africa’s Disciplinary Commission’s investigation into national mountain bike team rider Rourke Croeser’s potential UCI medical rule violation has found him not guilty of contravening UCI Medical Rule 13.03.058 (2).

It was confirmed that Mr Croeser’s possession of syringes and needles prior to the 2015 UCI MTB World Championships in Andorra in September 2015 was not in contravention of any rules regarding anti-doping, the use of illegal substances or the “no needle policy” (UCI Medical Rule 13.03.058 (2) specifically states “In case a violation of article 13.3.052 occurs at a race”, whereas the needle discovery was days before the race while the rider was training).

Mr Croeser will be notified of the finding and the report will also be sent to SAIDS (South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport) and the UCI for their records.

Cycling SA will suggest to Mr Croeser that he familiarise himself with all the UCI and WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) regulations and if required will assist him with the information and or education around this.

The recommendations with regards to improving internal policies will also be implemented and Cycling SA General Manager, Mike Bradley, is formalising the necessary rule set to be implemented in the 2016 season.

Cycling SA President, William Newman, re-iterated that the National Federation will continue to strive to ensure that riders are aware of the UCI medical rules. Newman further implored riders to familiarise themselves with all the rules relating to our sport including the medical and anti-doping regulations. Cycling SA will not tolerate any activities by athletes that may be an infringement of UCI medical or anti-doping regulations.

You want to force them to get married?

Cruel and inhumane punishment.

I am sure it is against the constitution....

Am I correct that both Daryl and Rourke were at or representing SA when they "infringed"?

WTF? I kinda wanted to believe the explanation for the needles, but now I'm getting my pitchfork!

"AmaBhungane has learned that the Spanish authorities in fact discovered two 1mm syringes in Croeser’s luggage and a blood-testing kit, used to analyse the levels of haemoglobin in the blood stream. The blood test kit is not banned"

Read the full article about him first saying that he was filling his tyres with syringes, then popping ass sores to saying there could be a million reasons for having them...

He didnt assist at all. He was given reduced 2 month for accepting ban and walking away. Not going the lawyer route.

Incorrect...

Sounds dodge I must say. But then I always have syringes around for various things. Would never inject myself though. Even a doctor injecting me gives me the creeps.

ding ding ding........common thread.

Makes me think that CSA would rather sweep things away to save face.

Only in South Africa can we convince ourselves that people will believe the most ridiculous story's to clear our own names. "The president didn't know Guptas were landing at Waterkloof" "The president didn't know about nKandlaaaa" "Daryl's single serving gel capsules were contaminated by a dirty counter". "Rourke used 1mm needles to inject slime that is supposed to fill 1mm holes".

There is of course some truth to what you say. However sometimes a more complex story turns out to be the truth. On the Hub people tend to go by instinct and the first thing that pops into their heads is then defended no what what evidence is presented.

If the Hub community decided all things based on this principle we would still think the sun went around the earth and that the earth was flat. After all the idea of sticking to the bottom of a ball sounds plain rediculous.

Would CSA have any vested interest in Rourke getting off?

This incident really is unfortunate timing... just as he was suddenly finding the best form of his career

While not really appreciating or respecting those providing that knowledge to do so and help him get that form.

If he did, he wouldnt be in the situation he is in now.

hahahaha..... Partnering up with Max Knox and then destroying Mathys and Philip at Lesotho sky by an hour and 13 minutes....

Haven't all of all Max's partners been slapped on the wrist for bad behavior?!

Hmmm, in this instance there is a smoking gun and a dead guy..... based on the evidence it is difficult to come to any other conclusion than guilty. But yes, perhaps there were some strange and unusual mitigating circumstances that saw him have a needle and syringe in his person on the eve of his best ever world cup performance.... :whistling:

ok so did a search & found this "missing link". Hindsight is a biaaaatch.

Reading the comments in this thread is also very interesting that's before we finally got the confirmation.

So why would CSA have done this, maybe hoping he would get away with it & retain Olympic spots? Makes me wonder about the Daryl situation as well, CSA credibility once again in the spot light.
