We would like to announce the launch of the Vlakkenberg MTB Trail powered by Bicyclegear, Private Client Holdings and the Pedal Power Association.

To do this, we will be hosting the first of our monthly Bicyclegear Blowouts. The event will be held on a 2km course encompassing both jeep track and the newly built cross-country course. The course was built by Sean Newbery from Green Space Designs on private land kindly made available by the Constantia Nek Estate. It offers riding enjoyment for all levels. The course is currently 700m long but will be become part of a much larger and intricate trail network in Hout Bay.

There will be two groupings. The A group – for the serious racer – will encompass 4 laps of the course. Group B is aimed at the less competitive rider, including high school cyclists and will cover 2 laps. Both fields will be limited to 30 riders on a first registered basis. Other people not racing will be able to support the riders and ride the trail afterwards with their permits.

The event will take place on Sunday 6 November 2016 with the B group starting at 8:45am and the A group at 9:30am.

The Vlakkenberg MTB Trail will work on a permit number plate system costing R30.00, which can be bought on Bicyclegear.co.za. Once you have purchased your permit, you will be able to ride on the trail at all times and have entry to all of the Bicyclegear.co.za Blowout events. Riders under18 will receive a free “young gun” permit as long as a parent /guardian buys a full permit.

Permits will also be available for purchase on the day of the race. Please bring your R30.00 cash. Visit Vlakkenberg MTB Trail for more information.

Just a reminder of the inaugural "Bicyclegear.co.za Blowout" happening on the #vlakkenbergmtbtrail this Sunday 6th November.

The B Group will start at 8:45 and do 2 laps of 2km. The A Group will start at 9:30 and do 4 laps of 2km. The start is on the Hout Bay pipe-track. If you park at Constantia Nek, follow the pipe-track on the way down into Hout Bay. If you are riding up from Hout Bay, follow Fynbos Close onto the pipe-track until you find us at the start. We will be present at the start from 8:00 until 10:30.There will be 30 riders allowed to race for each group.

We are selling R30 Vlakkenberg MTB Trail permits at the the start. This allows you to ride on the trail and have free entry into the monthly "Bicyclegear Blowout" events. All monies collected go towards building more trail and maintenance of it.

Please be aware that the Vlakkenberg MTB Trail is closed for a week while the landowners lay a water-pipe right through the middle of the trail!

Question - I bought my permit on the 9th November, but haven't heard anything since then.

Do I now just pitch up and ride?  Do I collect a board from somewhere?  How does it all work?

I haven't had a chance to get there yet, but want to very very soon!!

Can the permits only be bought online or is there another method?

You should have got a mail, I was given the choice of either having the board posted to me or collecting it from Complete Cyclist in Hout Bay.

I'd follow up witht them, besides I'm not too sure if the trails re-opened after the work being done earlier this week.

Epic Rookie thanks for covering my @$$. I was up there today and the team working up there said they will have completed their work by Wednesday next week. They have said that if they are not finished they will have the trench filled where the trail passes. Our trail building team is on stand-by as we have another Bicyclegear.co.za Blowout with Private Client Holdings next week Thursday.
