Kevin Evans accepts doping charge

By Press Office · 1614 comments

Cycling South Africa reports that the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) has charged mountain bike cyclist, Kevin Evans with doping after identifying serious irregularities in his Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) – a profile of the athlete’s blood parameters.

Mr. Evans accepted the charge of doping and did not contest the findings. The ABP is a longitudinal analysis and the suspicious readings were identified over a period of time, therefore the athlete’s results extending back to 14 March 2014 will be disqualified, with all of the resulting consequences, including forfeiture of any medals, points and prizes.

He will be banned from sport for four years as of 4 March 2015 until 3 March 2019. The athlete has however indicated that he has retired from professional cycling.

Cycling South Africa respects the independence of the SAIDS process. Cycling South Africa further reiterates its zero-tolerance approach to doping in sport and will continue working with SAIDS in the promotion of a drug-free sport via its awareness and extensive testing programmes.

for what its worth... my take on the situation.

having a system that effectively relies on the moral standards of the people who have none is fundamentally naive.

For the athletes out there... I am seriously sad for you that you do not have a guaranteed level playing field <vomit> to test yourself against your peers. (I really wish I could find a way to get funds to test (or cheaper test for) every bloody contender in every category in every race.

I do not care about how rife PEDs are in other sports - we're on the right path.

I know of many athletes(PRO, VET, MASTERS) who are involved in PEDs... and I am near certain of many others. I also have a list of possibilities-Simple data mining and cross referencing results and increase in "form".

I have sent my list to SAIDS  as well as a suggestion to strategically identify people of interest to test

as Ironic as this sounds: I am not actually against drugs to make you perform better. You just cant expect to compete against your peers whilst choosing to do this.

Sport is just a game... in the grater scheme of things its irrelevant.

How can she call zkrige a wannabe? She has no idea of how good a cyclist he could be if HE took drugs.

I must say, his response here must have sunk her battleship:

The Emma Sadlier letter gets brought up often. Did the recipients seek legal opinion when they got them, and what action did they take?

Damnit. I'm so not down with twatter. It was some douches response to saeco that I thought was clearly offsides not saecos. What kind of twatter calls someone a piece of **** in a public space? I reckon most twatterers needs to take several steps away from the keyboard/keypad.

ABPs are no longer used in any Brakpan sport. Apparently the lack of variety in genetic markers rendered testing pointless.

In my case, if you doped, sent me letters, made threatening phone calls to me, then got your wife to go after me on Twitter, I would probably call you way worse thing than a piece of poo.

Calling someone an ugly name is not comparable to the irreparable damage that The Chemical Brothers have done to the sport!!

Let's not lose focus here as to who the villains are!

True, and now they are making out if Jereon Swart is some how in on this as he coaches and does work with SAIDS.

There are 4 people that go to his shop and his wife that are defending his doping online and calling anyone that is calling him out a wannabee.

A wannabee what, disgraced doper that cheated to win some races? They are still falling from grandeur.
