How it works

The Fantasy Tour is all about picking your very own Tour de France dream team. You can choose any riders from any team to make up the ultimate virtual team.

  • Pick your squad of 12 riders: 8 active riders and 4 substitutes.
  • Team submissions close once the Tour begins: at 11h10 SAST on Saturday, 7 July 2018.
  • Substitutes: On the two rest days during the race you’ll have the opportunity to substitute riders. You can drop the non-performers or bring in some fresh legs.
  • Once substituted, riders can be used again, however points are only allocated while a rider is active…. if they’re on the bench you don’t score points.

Pools

This year we have included a new a feature, public and private pools. Now you can square up against your friends, families, and colleagues. Get started by creating your own pools here.

I've taken an analytical/numbers approach as apposed to gut and past performance.

Looked up and recorded the odds of winning each stage for all riders on various media platforms and built a little database which logs most likely scores for each rider over the 21 days.

So based on most likely to least likely to win a stage, rider gets allocated points. Structured my picks so that my chosen 8 plus subs results in a maximum combination of points for each of the three phases.

This takes into account the favorites on flats, cobbles, hilltops etc. Then just also made sure that the most likely jersey winners are also included.

This approach has caused me to leave out some big names I would otherwise definitely have picked, but seeing that that didn't go well last year, I'm sticking to my new BS approach...

If you don't place top 100 then the game is rigged I tell ya!

Seriously, what's your team name? Wanna see how far the analytical approach goes.

So it's essentially the same as my approach of throwing eight darts at a board then.

I am getting tired of training on my "dumb" IDT, always fiddling with the resistance setting and gearing to achieve the required Watts in Zwift.

However, I am going to have to delay the upgrade as at this stage I still have a realistic chance of winning the KICKR, though I might place my upgrade order after about stage 3 of the TDF :)

When I was organising the competition, I had access to see everyone’s picks before the competition start date - a reason I declined to be eligible to win a prize. I could see the winners picks from prior years, and compare to their picks submitted. It helped me bugger all as the best I finished as a top 30, and there were never more than 120 entries. Once it got to over 600 entries, it was too much data to go through, and I picked based on my limited experience.

Back then, my core objective was providing a platform for the competition. Bragging rights as the prize.
