Cape Town Cycle Tour warn of strong winds on Sunday

By Press Office · 33 comments

We have been advised that there is a high probability of severe winds on the Cape Peninsula within the next 24 hours. We strongly urge Cape Town Cycle Tour participants who are either not comfortable or do not have experience riding in strong winds, to carefully consider their decision to participate tomorrow. We believe wind conditions will not be as strong as in 2009, but they will nevertheless be severe. Cyclists and spectators must please take note.

Yes I agree. I can usually remember at least two things so I try to remember to eat and drink. I just deal with what comes up as it comes up. Usually around the 90km mark I find myself asking someone how long the race is. That usually gets a few odd looks.

Bit of a daft statement from CTCT to advise people not to start. The race is either safe to start or its not (and is shortened / cancelled). Its not like they'll do a part-refund if people decide not to start. Wind in March is not unusual, and should feature in their safety plan when safe numbers etc. is decided on in terms of entries allowed, start group sizes etc.

Oops. If that's true and current it looks like 2009. Hope not for all the people riding today.

I think if it was regular cyclists taking part in the wind no issue , but there are 30 000 people that only ever rides their bike twice a year and they are not used to a little air moving around that could be dangerous
