Adverse analytical finding in recent mountain bike stage race

By Matt · 878 comments

Cycling SA received notification from the UCI (International Cycling Union) of an adverse analytical finding from a sample provided by Barry Warmback on 18 March 2013 at the Absa Cape Epic.

The analytical report confirmed the presence of the steroid, Stanozolol in his sample. Barry is therefore provisionally suspended with immediate effect from competing in any event. The SAIDS (South African Institute of Drug-free Sport) process will now take its course.

Cycling SA reiterates its zero-tolerance approach to doping in sport and will continue working with the UCI and SAIDS in the promotion of a drug-free sport via its awareness programmes and extensive testing.

No they shouldn't if they had been using steroids

Yes because all those big gym muscles that are made up of "fast twitch fibers" are gonna soooooo useful in an endurance event.

Some people are so clueless.

You slap on an extra 20kgs in a backpack and see how efficient you are up a climb or over 120km. If big bulging biceps helped in endurance events then why are pro cyclist, marathon runners so huge.

How and where do you buy all this crap without a prescription?

C'mon dude, are you that nieve to think that pharmaceuticals are only to be prescribed by a doctor or found at a pharmacy....? So if the bottle store is closed on a Sunday you don't know of a shabeen or pub that'll sell you a few bottles...?

You must be one of those straight and narrow people who've never made any mistakes. There's a lot here on the hub.

Don't bother reading the instructions.. contraindications are basically not known unless you consider a "liver evil" a scientific term..

Stanozolol - Forgotten dose:

Use the wasted quantity as soon as you remember. However, in case it is almost time for the next dose, avoid the dose you unused, as well administrate only the next commonly planned dose. it is banned to administrate a double dosage of this medication.

Stanozolol - Overdosage:

An extraquantity of this medicine is unlikely to threaten life. Contact an emergency room or poison control center for guidance if an overmeasure is supposed.

Reactions of a stanozolol overdosage are not known.

Stanozolol - Unwanted replies:

In infrequent enviroments, bad and even fatal cases of liver evils have observed during management with stanozolol. See your specialist instantly if you involvement stomach pain, light colored stools, dark colored urine, strange weariness, nausea or vomiting, or yellowing of the skin or eyes. These may be initial symptoms of liver harms.

In case you involvement each of the following grave undesirable feedbacks, see your specialist instantly or look for emergency health help:

- an sensitive response (trouble breathing; closing of the throat; bulge of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);

- bulge of the hands or legs (mainly ankles);

- frequent or persistent erections, or breast sensitivity or enlargement (men patients); or

- voice variations (roughness, deepening), hair failure, facial hair growth, clitoral inflammation, or menstrual abnormalities (female patients).

Negative responses other than those indicated here can as well appear. Ask your specialist about every adverse result that seems infrequent or that is chiefly bothersome.

Storage:

Keep out of the touch of kids.

Keep the medication in a secure box at room temperature, out from heat, humidity, also direct light. Keep from subzero.

It is not allowed to store old drug or drug no longer required.

If the guys who produce this crap can't even write proper instructions/warnings......I mean FFS. "....keep out of the touch of kids.." Would you put it in your body?

Barry, I respect your story, but in the end I find it sad that you ( and others ) use this stuff.

It's a telling reflection on our society.

Firstly Barry this is not aimed at you.

People mentioned here why randomly testing middle or back of the pack riders it is a waste of money from drug free sport.

Everyone is in the same race and must adhere to the same rules.

Maybe they must change the rules that if anyone get tested and it is positive that person should be liable to pay a fee of say 3 times the cost of the test. That will enable drug free sport to test more people.

My opinion on this.

Just spoke to a Mate of Barry, CSA have posted this "named" release without even notifying the athlete himself... He is dumbstruck. Surely the athlete must be notified first???

The CSA are a bunch of dipshits.

What a crock of ****. Not sure what pisses me off more. The fact that the Big Brother doping agencies see the need to spend money on checking the fun riders or the fact that so many have such a high esteem of themselves to even judge. Cycling has become the whipping boy of the sports world. Do me a favour do tests on the Comrades Marathon field. There are more athletes there that start the race with pills in pockets than Dischem has in any of their branches. The fact that names get released without consultation to the blood thirsty media is beyond reproach. Barry if I ever get to meet you, I'll shake your hand and have a beer with you. Good on you. And don't apologise for anything. No one is squeaky clean. NO ONE! For those that think they are... Cheating on your taxes lately? Thought so. Haven't paid your traffic fines. Probably. Broken any speed limits. Yeah that too. So close this stream and carry on with live. SAIDS and Cycling SA I really hope you guys think about all of this and concentrate on the athletes that make money out of the sport instead of those paying tens of thousands to simply participate. Each to their own. I use coffee to give me a boost. Ban that too. Chops! Oh wait didn't the previous Comrades winner test positive for A and B samples and then get awarded due to process not being followed??? Crazy world we live in where 16 pages of responses are required for something this stupid that impacts no one.
